Healing and Avoiding Spit Fast When Baby is Teething

Drool rash is very common when babies go through the teething process. The excess saliva that babies normally have while they teethe can irritate their sensitive skin and causes a red rash around their mouth. It can sometimes appear on their cheeks, neck and chest as well.

While drool rash doesn't usually bother baby, it's still a good idea to keep it under control as much as possible. Every baby is different and not all methods will work for everyone, but here are 5 ways that should help minimize drool rash, if not get rid of it completely:

Keep baby's face as dry from drool as possible. Gently pat their face with a soft dry cloth throughout the day. Laundry detergent can also be an irritant for baby's skin so you may want to wash all of baby's clothing, sheets andwashcloths with natural, fragrance-free detergent.

Have a towel or cloth under their bed sheet to soak up any drool while baby sleeps. Rub Their faces against the wet sheet which can exacerbate the rash.

Applying a bit of petroleum jelly can help soothe a rash if it seems like it's bothering your baby. This will help keep their skin moist and should help control any itching.

Keeping baby's clothes dry throughout the day will help keep their rash from being irritated any further. You can have baby wear a bib and replace it with a fresh one every few hours. This is also handy for preventing stains due to spit up.

If your baby's drool rash persists and is becoming bothersome, you may want to talk to your pediatrician or pharmacist and ask them to recommend a cream. Keep in mindhowever that this may irritate the rash even further, so use this only as a last resort.
